Dr. Bona has served as the DeKalb Community Service Board’s Chief Medical Officer since 2003 and was appointed to Chief Executive Officer on September 1, 2015. Dr. Bona is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and currently serves as President-Elect of the Georgia Psychiatric Physician’s Association. He has over 25 years of psychiatric experience and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Bona received his B.A. in Biology and English from Canisius College; a Medical Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo; and an M.B.A. from University of South Florida. His psychiatry residency was at Duke University Medical Center.
Fabio van der Merwe started his career at the DeKalb CSB in 2006 and has served in management positions in the departments of Compliance, Quality, and Utilization Management. In 2016 he joined DeKalb CSB’s Leadership Team as the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his work at DeKalb CSB, Fabio held positions in managed care, substance abuse, and other behavioral health organizations. Fabio has a B.A. in Psychology from Emory University, a M. A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and holds certification in Health Care Compliance.
Jim has 40 years of professional experience in finance and accounting with more than 25 years of experience in finance with healthcare organizations. He has served as the Chief Financial Officer for the DeKalb CSB since 2006. Jim is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from Georgia Southern University and M.B.A. from the University of Georgia.
Brenda joined DeKalb CSB in 2002 and has served as Director of Crisis Services, Director of Behavioral Health Services and Chief Clinical Officer. Before she came to the agency, she served as Director of Mental Health Services at Emory University Hospitals. She has enjoyed a long career throughout the continuum of public and private healthcare, direct care and administration, medical and behavioral health. Brenda received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her graduate degrees at Georgia State University.
Keith joined DeKalb CSB’s leadership team in 2014. Since 1974, Keith has served individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in communities in Maryland, New Hampshire, California and Massachusetts. Most recently, Keith served as Director of Operations for BAMSI – Developmental Disabilities/Brain Injury Day and Residential Services in Brockton, MA for more than 13 years. Keith’s work experience includes positions with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health as well as leadership positions with various local affiliates of The Arc.
