Joseph Bona, MD, MBA has been named Chief Executive Officer for the DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB). Dr. Joseph Bona will succeed current CEO, Gary Richey, for the position. Dr. Bona has served as the DeKalb Community Service Board’s Chief Medical Officer for the past 12 years and is ready to take the next step and lead the CSB with his experience and business savvy.

Presently, Dr. Bona is the Chief Medical Officer of the DeKalb CSB and Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and Georgia Regents University School of Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and English at Canisius College in Buffalo, a Medical Degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo,   and an MBA from the University of South Florida in Tampa. He completed his psychiatry residency training and chief residency at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.

Prior to his present role, Dr. Bona served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Emory, Medical Director of the psychiatry service at Emory University Hospital and Director of Schizophrenia Research at Emory. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and maintains a research interest in psychotic disorders, psychopharmacology, early episode schizophrenia, primary care integration and service delivery structure and policy.

Dr. Bona is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists, and President-Elect of the Georgia Psychiatric Physician Association.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Dr. Bona and his wife Laura live in Sandy Springs, Georgia. They have a daughter who recently graduated from the University of Virginia and works in Atlanta.

DeKalb CSB is delighted to welcome Dr. Bona as our new CEO and we are excited that his experience, training and strong leadership skills will lead the DeKalb CSB into the future.
