“The New DSM-5: An Overview of the Changes to the Latest Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders”

Presented by Dr. Arden Dingle of Emory University School of Medicine
July 18, 2013

The DSM-5 is the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The DSM serves as a general authority for the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. DSM classifications often determine treatment recommendations as well as payment by healthcare providers.

Several alterations have been made from the previous edition so it is important to understand these changes. This educational event will be helpful for mental health professionals and anyone interested in the diagnosis of mental health disorders.

Dr. Dingle serves as Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She serves as board chair for the DeKalb Community Service Board.
