Overview

The Brighter DeKalb Foundation in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking Board members with fundraising experience. The Brighter DeKalb Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the programs and services of the DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB). The foundation was formerly called the Brighter Tomorrows Foundation.

The DeKalb CSB is a $31M public nonprofit provider of community-based behavioral healthcare. We offer a full range of mental health services, substance abuse treatment and developmental disabilities programs to 10,000 youth and adults annually at more than 20 locations across DeKalb County. The staff of physicians, nurses, clinicians and support personnel is dedicated to helping clients recover from these debilitating disabilities and resume productive lives. We envision a community in which disabilities no longer limit potential.


Board Role

The Brighter DeKalb Foundation board is looking for strong individual contributors with the experience, energy, and commitment necessary to problem-solve in an increasingly challenging and competitive healthcare landscape. We are primarily interested in individuals who have direct or relevant experience in fundraising and/or people with a background in the provider or business perspectives of healthcare. The Brighter DeKalb Foundation is building a robust infrastructure including creating a new marketing and funding plan. We need a talented and strong board to do this, and we hope you will join us!

Successful Applicant Qualifications

We are seeking applicants with experience across the following:

Leadership Experience

  • Executive, partner, or senior management in a corporate, non-profit, or educational organization
  • Non-profit or public policy; organizational expertise
  • Familiarity with strategic planning principles
  • Experience with preparing and making pitches/presentations
  • Critical thinking, analytical mindset, and creative problem-solving
  • Responsible for financial performance or program/project delivery
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Understanding of metrics
  • Organizational evaluation experience

Fundraising Connections

Fundraising experience and desire to raise funds for the Brighter DeKalb Foundation to help individuals with disabilities is a plus. The successful candidate will have an ability to articulate this understanding and inspire others to join and give.

Responsibilities

  • Attend quarterly meetings in Decatur, Georgia
  • Understand current state and vision of our organization
  • Presence to vote on issues
  • Approve financial statements and other organizational documents
  • Identify and resolve assumptions, risks, and issues
  • Review key documents in timely manner
  • Fiduciary duty
