DECATUR, Georgia – December 18, 2014 – The Brighter DeKalb Foundation announces the appointment of Alecea Quintyne as their new Board Chair. Brighter DeKalb Foundation is a nonprofit organization in metro-Atlanta, Georgia established to help youth and adults reclaim their lives by supporting a full continuum of behavioral health and developmental disability services provided by the DeKalb Community Service Board (DeKalb CSB).
As Board Chair, Quintyne will lead the charge to increase philanthropy for behavioral healthcare and developmental disability services in DeKalb County, Georgia. During the past 10 years, public providers of behavioral healthcare and developmental disabilities services in Georgia have been under tremendous pressure to meet the growing demand for services while facing millions of dollars in State and local funding cuts. Spurred by this loss in support, the Brighter DeKalb Foundation has increased its efforts to raise awareness and funding for these critical services in the DeKalb community.
Quintyne is a 10-year resident of DeKalb County with over 15 years of Healthcare Information Technology experience focused on administrating and leading medication management projects. Quintyne holds a BA in Management of Information Systems from National – Louis University and is a MHA candidate for the 2016 class at Pfeiffer University.
Quintyne’s desire to serve stems from a philanthropic spirit she inherited from her large and loving family. After her brother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, she developed an increased passion for mental illness awareness and advocacy. “I want to be a change agent for DeKalb County to ensure that its citizens are aware of and have access to mental health services,” said Quintyne.
